A 50-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash on the D’Aguilar Highway on Monday morning.

The incident occurred about 4:30am on a stretch of the highway between D’Aguilar and Bracalba.

Preliminary investigations indicate the BMW sedan was travelling east on the D’Aguilar Highway when it left the roadway, collided with a barrier and stopped on a grassed area on the side of the road.

As a result, the vehicle caught fire.

The driver and sole occupant, from Stony Creek near Woodford, died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

The highway was blocked in both directions for several hours.
