Delvin Powys, Nanango; Bronwyn, Minnie and Cherry Martoo, Kingaroy; and Kahli Dawkings, Cleveland, were supporting the floral theme

A surfeit of local events meant crowds were down slightly at Nanango Race Club’s annual Spring Races on Saturday.

Down the road, the Blackbutt Avocado Festival was rolling, while just nearby the junior and senior rugby league grand finals were being played, and the annual Nanango Music Muster was in full swing.

To top it off, Kingaroy State High School was hosting a large reunion weekend.

However, the solid contingent of racing regulars and visitors who turned up enjoyed a warm day of spring sunshine at the track after some early-morning drizzle.

Patrons were encouraged to dress to a “50s Spring Florals” theme to win prizes donated by Moffatdale Ridge Wines.

The club experimented with a new way to judge the Fashions of the Field, making selections from selfies uploaded to Nanango Race Club’s Facebook page.

The winning entries were: the Martoo family, Kahli Dawkings, Kym Schultz, and Jo and Loretta Anderson.

Local jockey Hannah English had the best day on the track, bringing home two firsts, a third and a fourth.
