Agriculture Minister and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has retained his role as Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources in the new Federal ministry.

The appointment was announced on Sunday by newly sworn-in Prime Minister Scott Morrison following the recent Liberal Party shake-up in Canberra.

Tasmanian Senator Richard Colbeck was named as Assistant Minister.

Former Deputy PM and Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce missed out on a role in the ministry but was appointed “special envoy for drought assistance and drought recovery”.

“I’m honoured to be asked to continue as Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources in the Morrison-McCormack Government,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Agriculture feeds our nation and tens of millions of other people around the world.

“Our farmers should be proud of what they do and the way they do it.

“I anticipate our farmers will continue to constantly improve, recognising consumer needs and leading the world with the best practices.

“I look forward to continuing to help farmers deal with drought and changing climate and help them plan for recovery; to work to gain access for our produce to countries with which we have free trade agreements and to those we don’t, to address labour shortage issues and tell the positive story about agriculture and rural Australia which city media sadly seem to miss.

“This nation was built on agriculture and Australian agriculture must continue to be a modern, cutting edge industry so we can build towards the National Farmer’s Federation’s goal of $100 billion of gross production by 2030.”
