The South Burnett Saints celebrated their Heritage Day on Saturday with a thumping win against an undermanned Coolaroo side at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

The clash between the 5th and 6th placegetters in the AFL Darling Downs competition turned into a cakewalk for the home team who were wearing the old Kingaroy Bulldogs’ strip.

Veteran player Adam Branch also took to the field for the day.

The Saints chalked up an easy 24.18 (162)  to 6.2 (38) victory after leading by 40 points at half time.

South Burnett goals were kicked by Joseph Amery (5), Keegan Wright (3), Mitchell Francis (3), Adam Bowater (3), Daniel Rogers (2), Jordan Pressnell (2), Kieran Askin (2), Kyall Shepherd (2), Brad Pressnell and Adam Branch.

There are two more rounds of the competition left before the finals series gets under way.

Next weekend, the South Burnett team plays the ninth-placed Dalby Swans at Dalby, followed by eighth-placed Highfield Lions the following weekend in Kingaroy.

The Saints’ path to the finals is still possible if they notch up wins in both these games but will also depend on the luck of 3rd and 4th-placed Goondiwindi and Warwick over the next fortnight.

The South Burnett Saints’ women’s team enjoyed a bye this weekend after a strong performance against USQ Cougars at their previous outing.

The Bulldogs’ colours got their annual run in Kingaroy on Saturday
