The Queensland Police Pipes and Drums band dropped into Murgon and Cherbourg last week to provide some unexpected entertainment for young and old alike.

The band consists of serving police officers and includes bagpipes, drums and digeridoos.

The musicians played for students at St Joseph’s Catholic School and Cherbourg and Murgon State schools, as well as in QEII Park in Lamb Street, Murgon, and at Ny-Ky-Byun aged care centre and Gundoo Child Care in Cherbourg.

They received hugs from the children as well as applause from the adults.

The didgeridoo playing at Cherbourg State School encouraged some traditional shake-a-leg dancing from the enthusiastic young students.

Officer-in-charge of the band, Senior Sergeant Mel Cowie, said the Brisbane-based musicians played all over the State.
