Midge Thompson … success at the inaugural Limousin Blockbuster competition

Nanango cattle breeders Midge and Reg Thompson have taken out the “hook” section of the inaugural Limousin Blockbuster hoof and hook competition, judged at Teys Australia’s Beenleigh abattoir.

The Thompson brothers were awarded the Grand Champion Export Class trophy for a carcase weighing 321.8kg.

Other South Burnett producers to win during the hook section were Brad and Jodie Frohloff, from Yarraman, who won Class 3 Heifer 370-470kg; and Megan and Jason Livingstone, from Maidenwell, who won Eye Muscle Area 370-470kg and Dressing Percentage 370-470kg.

Earlier, Corey Evans, from Jen-Daview Limousin Stud in Kingaroy, was awarded the Grand Champion hoof exhibit with a 15-month-old steer sired by Jen-Daview King George.

Graeme Wicks, from Hillsborough Limousins at Tingoora, took the Reserve Champion hoof title with a 594kg steer.

The trophies were presented to the winners at the Sundowner Saloon at Haigslea on Sunday.

Overall, 56 prizes were awarded from a total prize pool of $12,000.
