Numbers were back to just over 400 for Murgon’s Liveweight Sale on Tuesday.

This was down from the 700 herded a fortnight ago, but prices remained fairly firm on the previous sale.

However, some weaner types sold to a tougher market.

Cattle were drawn from Nanango, Goomeri, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Binjour and the Murgon district.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2.17/kg for $1710
  • Heavy Steers topped at $2.43/kg and $1550
  • Cows over 500kg topped at $2.12/kg, averaging $2.00/kg
  • Cows 400–500kg sold to $2.00/kg
  • Lighter Cows under 400kg sold to $1.80/kg
  • 2 tooth Droughtmaster steers from J Currin of Goomeri sold to $2.45/kg for $1231
  • 417 kg Charolais cross steers from I & M Buckley of Gayndah sold for $1066 at $2.55/kg
  • Angus steers from G & S McGregor sold to $2.50/kg, returning $1062
  • Local Gelvieh steers weighing 388kg sold to $2.50/kg for $971
  • Brangus steers from J & J Oppermann of Binjour sold for $905 at $2.46/kg
  • Charolais cross weaner steers from R & F Nichol of Mt Perry sold for $896 ($2.63) and $870 ($2.76)
  • Droughtmaster heifers from J & S McCarthy of Nanango sold for $1008 at $2.31/kg
  • 416kg Charolais cross heifers sold to $2.35/kg, returning $980
  • 340kg Droughtmaster heifers from Murgon sold for $800 at $2.31/kg
  • Most weaner heifers sold in the $2.00 to $2.20 bracket.

The end of financial year Weaner Sale will be held this Friday, June 22.

The next fortnightly Murgon sale is on Tuesday, July 3 at 8:00am.
