A large grass fire which broke out near the New England Highway at Upper Yarraman on Tuesday morning was brought under control by 12:55pm.

A QFES spokesman said three urban units and 13 Rural Fire Brigade units were despatched to the scene just before 10:30am.

About 30 acres near the Upper Yarraman Road were burned out.

At 3:30pm, all the urban units had left the incident but rural firies were still patrolling the perimeter and blackening out spot fires.

Firefighters successfully prevented the flames from reaching sheds which had been under threat in the windy conditions.
