South Burnett Saints have notched up another away win in the Darling Downs AFL competition, downing the Highfields Lions in a tight game on Saturday at Highfields.

At the end of the first quarter, the home team was ahead by two points, and at half-time the scores were locked: 6.7 (43).

But the Saints changed gears in the third quarter to kick five goals to two. They then put on another six in the last.

The final score was South Burnett 17.15 (117) to Highfields 11.9 (75).

Joseph Amery and Keegan Wright were Saints’ top goal kickers.

South Burnett are holding down third spot on the ladder on 20 points, just behind South Toowoomba on for / against.

Competition leaders are USQ Cougars who have suffered no losses so far this season.

The Saints will be hitting the highway again next weekend, heading off to Goondiwindi on Saturday to play the Hawks.

South Burnett Saints women’s team had another tough day at the office in Highfields, going down 14.21 (105) to 0.1 (1) against the Toowoomba Tigers.

The women have a bye this weekend.

Saints Friday Night Footy for youngsters aged 5-11 years will start at Lyle Vidler Oval this Friday night (June 15) at 6:00pm.
