The South Burnett Saints were back on the road at the weekend, taking on the Toowoomba Tigers at home in the Darling Downs AFL competition.
The Saints, sitting in equal second spot on the ladder, were ahead at every change, running out winners 17.13 (115) to 12.7 (79).
The Tigers enjoyed a strong second quarter, outkicking the visitors, and were just five points behind at half-time.
But South Burnett rallied after the break and enjoyed a particularly strong last quarter.
Saints’ goals were kicked by Joseph Amery (4), Mitchell Francis (3), Lloyd Slater (3), Brad Pressnell (2), Kieran Askin (2), Nathan Trace, Keegan Wright and Ben Pressnell.
The Saints’ next game will be back in Kingaroy on Saturday, where they will face the Chinchilla Suns, who are yet to record a win this season.
The South Burnett women’s team had a less successful trip to Toowoomba, kicking just one behind in their clash with the Tigers.
The final score was 14.13 (97) to 0-1 (1).
The Saints will play the USQ Cougars on Saturday at Lyle Vidler Oval.
Junior AFL players in the South Burnett will have the opportunity to enjoy the game they love when Friday Night Footy kicks off in Kingaroy on June 15.
Games will be for boys and girls aged 5 to 11 years.
The mini-season will run for eight weeks.
