A 31-year-old man wounded by a mystery shotgun blast has links to the Kilkivan area.

The man turned up at Gympie Hospital on Tuesday night with shotgun pellet wounds to his upper body but has refused to say how he received the injuries.

He has also not made a complaint to police.

The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Police later located a black 2005 Toyota Camry in a car park opposite the hospital with damage from an apparent shotgun blast.

The blast had peppered the rear side window and door of the vehicle.

Speaking at a media conference on Wednesday, Gympie CIB Officer-in-Charge Detective Sergeant Rob Lowry said the man’s refusal to co-operate was making the investigation difficult.

The man’s 19-year-old female associate has also refused to help police.

Det Sgt Lowry said it was assumed the man had been wounded in the Gympie region but he also had addresses in Kilkivan and “other areas”.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800-333-000.
