The South Burnett received heavy rain, winds and hail during the October storms but did not suffer enough damage to qualify for exceptional circumstances grants

Primary producers in the North Burnett Regional Council area who suffered direct damage from severe weather last October have until July 20 to apply for a State Government exceptional circumstances grant.

Natural Disaster Recovery Grants are available for farmers affected by the severe weather from October 16-19 to assist with the costs of clean-up and reinstatement.

A maximum of $25,000 is available to aid eligible primary producers, including initial grants up to $5000 and subsequent grants to a total of $20,000.

Examples of eligible activities include:

  • Purchasing, hiring or leasing equipment or materials to clean premises, property or equipment.
  • Removing and disposing of debris, damaged goods, materials including injured or dead livestock
  • Repairing or replacing fencing
  • Purchasing fodder or salvaging crops or feed for stock
  • Repairing or reconditioning essential plant or equipment
  • Maintaining the health of livestock or poultry
  • Paying additional wages to an employee to assist with clean-up work
