Kingaroy cricketer Dan O’Connor signs the 30th anniversary team bat which will be hung in the KC&SC clubhouse at Lyle Vidler Oval

Kingaroy Cricket & Sports Club members marked the 30th anniversary of the opening of their clubhouse with an unusual double header at Lyle Vidler Oval on Saturday.

First up was a T20 cricket match between a Gympie Cricket Association XI and a South Burnett side.

The South Burnett XI sported special 30th anniversary shirts made for the occasion, and even the KC&SC stumps were one-off specials made for the day.

The cricket game was a followed by a scratch Aussie Rules game between the South Burnett Saints and a combined Chinchilla Suns / SB side.

When was the last time that AFL and cricket were played on the same day on the same ground?

As the fun day of sport progressed, the crowd built up on the verandah of the clubhouse, eagerly anticipating the evening celebrations which included a spit roast dinner and live entertainment.

A number of past Kingaroy cricketers returned for the day, including members of the 1988 South Burnett team.

Former Test star Carl Rackemann – who officially opened the clubhouse on April 9, 1988 – also was present and cut the 30th birthday cake with club life member Kev Baartz.
