The thought of entering a male dominated industry might deter some young women, but that’s certainly not the case for one of the new principals of TopX Murgon.
Amy Wicks says she couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to own her own TopX franchise in her local area.
“I am really thrilled to be going into business with my husband, Jason,” Amy said.
“Becoming a livestock agent is something I’ve always wanted to do, but I never had the opportunity so I created one.
“As a teenager I was told this was not a game for women to be in, but in recent years we have seen more and more women enter the livestock agency profession.”
Amy has a long history with the region’s agricultural shows – she was a South Burnett Miss Showgirl and a runner-up for Queensland Rural Ambassador.
“After leaving high school I worked in many different aspects of agriculture, from beef and dairy production to feedlots and for international agricultural companies in a corporate environment,” Amy said.
“All of these experiences have equipped me with the foundations to be successful in the livestock agency business.”
Amy said becoming a TopX franchisee was a simple decision to make.
“The brand TopX Australia is a tremendous fit with our values of integrity, honesty and innovation,” she said.
“The TopX motto is ‘Old Values, New Ways’ and it sums up exactly who Jason and I are and what we want to bring to the South Burnett.
“We believe that through innovation, marketing platforms and TopX’s growing network of agents, we are able to provide a service that upholds traditional values but incorporates a new way of thinking.”
Amy said because she was raised in a farming family, she understands the pressures, challenges and time constraints primary producers face.
“That’s why I’m happy to discuss business with clients at their kitchen table or out in the paddock. With the use of technology, my office is completely mobile.”
Amy said she would like the family’s new business to become a leading livestock and rural property agency in the region.
“Our services include livestock and property marketing, fortnightly livestock sales at the Murgon Saleyards, private and online sales, stud stock sales, auctioneer services and clearing sales.
“Most importantly, I understand it’s the people who make the community, this industry and our new business so great. We look forward to working with our clients, well into the future.”
