Bill McKenzie, from Kingaroy; Keith Simmons, Nanango; and John Evans, Kingaroy … hoping to catch up with old mates

February 16, 2018

Do you recognise these blokes? If so, you’ve probably worked at Tarong Power Station at some time over the past 40 or so years.

Bill McKenzie, Keith Simmons and John Evans are part of a small committee of retired workers organising the first-ever Tarong Power Station reunion for current and former employees and contractors.

(Tarong North people are welcome, too!).

The reunion will be held from 9:00am to 10:00pm on March 17 at Nanango Showgrounds.

Bill said they were hoping to attract workers from the construction phase right through until now.

Food and drink will be on sale, and people can also camp overnight at the showgrounds.

“We don’t know how many people will come but we looking for a really good turnout,” Bill said.

The aim of the day is to reunite old workmates and swap stories.

Bill was a mechanical supervisor, working at the power station for 32 years; Keith was a crane driver, who also worked at the station for more than 30 years; and John was a fitter who worked at Tarong from 1979-2006.

All are keen to catch up with people that they have lost touch with since they retired.

Current and former employees who intend to come along to the reunion have been asked to contact Keith on 0427-631-676 before March 3 for catering purposes.
