The St Mary’s Catholic College Parents & Friends Association handed over a cheque on Wednesday to mark the start of the school’s air-conditioning program.

Principal Angela Myles said the initial donation would be used to install air conditioning in the prep classroom.

“It is recognised that comfortable learning spaces can enhance learning outcomes,” she said.

“Therefore this will be the beginning of a long-term project implemented in conjunction with the P&F that also involves revitalisation of classrooms to make them more conducive to learning.”

Mrs Myles said a “whole school” plan was being implemented which also included passive approaches such as increased shade and ventilation.

“At the same time the college is exploring ways to reduce our overall energy consumption through the development of a teacher and student led sustainability committee,” she said.

“We would like to thank the P&F Association for this long-term commitment to the college.”
