The postponed road inspection tour by the Mundubbera to Jandowae Roads Working Group (RWG) went ahead successfully on Tuesday.
The tour, to review the condition of the Chinchilla-Wondai Road (west of Durong) and Mundubbera-Durong Road, had to be re-scheduled after the original date was rained out.
The RWG includes representatives from the South and North Burnett and Western Downs councils, AgForce, BIEDO, TSBE and the Wide Bay Burnett RDA.
They gathered at the Darr Creek service station and then travelled north to Mundubbera.
An 11km stretch of the road is single lane despite it being used by heavy trucks.
They also stopped at the notorious single-lane John Peterson Bridge, across the Boyne River south of Mundubbera.
The tour was part of a combined push by local groups to improve transport links in the western part of the South Burnett.
Chair of the RWG is AgForce SEQ Director and Durong grazier Georgie Somerset.
The group, which was formed in October, is committed to building a case for the funding required for ongoing improvements and maintenance to the roads in question.
It is gathering evidence to inform government decision-making, including collecting local data and case studies.
During Tuesday’s tour, members of the group spoke to local residents and stakeholders to help build its case.
“A number of business owners and individuals who utilise this part of the road network have already submitted online or paper surveys and we thank them sincerely for their input,” BIEDO CEO Kristy Frahm said.
“There is still time for anyone else who would like to provide information regarding current and potential activity related to the road between Mundubbera and Jandowae.
“Surveys can be downloaded or completed online via links on the BIEDO website or Facebook page until January 12.”
