Local MP Deb Frecklington has delivered an early Christmas present to Nanango resident Jakeb Dugdell who was one of four successful applicants in Round 4 of her Local Hero Grants program.

Mrs Frecklington said Jakeb would receive $250 to help him in his pursuit of becoming a professional BMX rider and potentially attending the 2020 Olympic Games.

“I am really happy to be helping Jakeb in his journey to become an elite athlete,” she said.

“I know that he has already represented Australia recently in China at the World Championships for BMX riding and I think he has a very bright future ahead.

“My Local Hero Grants are about supporting local people like Jakeb to attend major sporting events, as well as providing access to funding for community groups who need that little bit of extra assistance to run their event or purchase a small piece of equipment.

“The other successful clubs in Round 4 are the Goomeri Lions Club for their annual Christmas Carnival, the Toogoolawah Christmas Tree and the Esk Community Christmas Tree.

“These clubs are using their $250 grants to help run their annual Christmas events and I’m so pleased I could help brighten Christmas for the people in these towns.

“These are small, but meaningful grants designed to recognise and reward our quiet
achievers.

Round 5 of  thes Local Hero Grants will close on March 31 and will be announced in early April.
