Members of the South Burnett Community Agriculture Network were given tips on how to cut their power bills on Tuesday evening.
The night, held at the Kingaroy TAFE college, was the group’s last quarterly meeting for 2017 and began with a tasting table of snacks prepared from local produce, including organic pork from Crownthorpe and cheese from Kenilworth.
The meeting also coincided with National Agriculture Day, which prompted a round of applause.
Guest speaker Andrew Chamberlin, from the Queensland Farmers Federation, is part of the QFF’s Energy Savers program.
This program is encouraging farmers to review what electricity tariffs they are on, and how they are using electricity.
He said one farm had saved $20,000 a year simply by changing tariffs … and Andrew said this was not unusual.
“You should ring up every year and check your tariffs,” he urged.
He said savings could also be made by changing when power was used, changing the pressure of pumps and making certain that pumping equipment was “fit for purpose”.
