Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien has announced new funding for the Kilkivan and Murgon Men’s Sheds.

“I’m pleased to confirm Kilkivan Men’s Shed will receive $4842 for the purchase of an air compressor, compound mitre saw, metal cut off saw, combo kit, welder inverter, orbital and belt sanders, first aid kit, first aid and safety courses,” Mr O’Brien said on Friday.

“This funding will be used by members to expand their range of quality products and increase participation in activities that advance the health and well-being of members.”

Mr O’Brien said Murgon’s Men’s Shed will receive $5000 for an electrical upgrade to the workshop to address health and safety compliance.

“This funding is in addition to my $25,000 election commitment which supported the extension of the shed to enable more activities and projects to be undertaken.

“I congratulate the Kilkivan and Murgon Men’s Sheds on the success of their applications.

“Men’s Sheds strengthen the community by encouraging participation and supporting volunteers, and also contribute to the growth and development of other local organisations by sharing resources with them.

“They serve an important health and wellbeing role by reducing social isolation and improving mental health, particularly among retired and older men, providing mentors for those facing uncertainty in life and who are looking to acquire new skills.”

The Nanango Men’s Shed also received a $5757 grant in the latest funding round to put concreting across the front of their shed, install a 5Kw solar system, and purchase sign making kits and a dual mode router.

The grant funding is part of the $5.1 million National Shed Development Program the Federal Government has provided to the Australian Men’s Shed Association through to 2018-19 to support Men’s Sheds.
