Numbers were back to just 400 in Murgon on Tuesday, but values for most descriptions improved slightly.

However, cattlemen gained some relief from the dry conditions affecting pastures with 30mm to 70mm falling in the South Burnett on Monday.

Cattle were consigned from Coringa, Mt Perry, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Nanango, Kingaroy and locally.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2.57/kg, an improvement of 5-10 cents per kilo
  • A few Heavy Steers were yarded and sold to a top of $2.79/kg for $1700
  • Cows over 500kg averaged $2.02/kg
  • Cows 400–500kg averaged $1.99/kg and topped at $2.27/kg
  • Cows under 400kg were firm on the previous sale
  • Charolais steers from T & B Schulz of Moffatdale sold for $2.77/kg for $1420
  • Senepol cross steers from S & J Finney of Memerambi sold for $1265 at $2.89/kg
  • 390kg Charolais cross steers from I & M Buckley of Gayndah sold for $1112 at $2.85/kg
  • Their lighter brothers weighing 334 kg sold for $966 and $2.89/kg
  • Droughtmaster cross steers from R Sudull of Booie sold for $939 at $2.97/kg
  • 2 pens of Droughtmaster cross steers from Myora Pastoral Co of Johnstown sold to $3.16/kg to return $953 and $928
  • 275kg Angus cross weaner steers from A & J McLennan of Corndale sold for $858 at $3.12/kg
  • Brangus weaner steers from J & J Oppermann of Gayndah sold for $848 and $3.27/kg
  • 208kg Angus cross weaner steers from “Holroyd” of Booubyjan sold for $698 at $3.34/kg
  • Santa weaner steers from G & T Campbell of Paradise Dam sold for $687 and $3.32/kg
  • Light Brahman weaner steers from S Oppermann of Gayndah sold for $3.15/kg to return $615
  • Brahman steers from Daddamarine Trust of Booubyjan also sold for $635 at $2.87/kg
  • 440kg Charbray Heifers from D & M Hoogstraten of Goomeri sold for $2.63/kg, returning $1164
  • Senepol cross heifers from CE Finney of Manumbar sold for $813 at $2.70/kg
  • 275kg Devon cross heifers from Goomeri sold for $754 at $2.74/kg
  • 2 pens of Santa weaner heifers from G & T Campbell sold for $2.85/kg, returning $670 and $588
  • 218kg Brangus weaner heifers from Koobooda Grazing of Gayndah sold for $571 at $2.62/kg

The next fortnightly cattle sale will be held on Tuesday, October 17.
