The Nanango and District Netball Club moved $1000 closer to their goal of raising $240,000 for new netball courts on Tuesday, thanks to a surprise donation from visiting campervanners.

The money came from the Campervan and Motorhome Club’s Solos Network, who have been holding their 20th birthday rally at Nanango Showgrounds over the past week.

“We are always glad to spend money in the towns we stay in,” assistant rally co-ordinator Glenyce Mills said.

“This $1000 donation is just a small proportion of the income our rally generated for Nanango.

“There was a regular bus to town most days which took people to the local stores, then back to their motorhomes.”

“But the courts are in terrible condition and we could see the netball club definitely needed all the help they could get,” Glenys said.

Over 300 motorhomes – nearly 350 people – pulled together their loose change to make the donation.

Nanango and District Netball president Sheena Lindholm and her daughter Emma were presented with the money by rally co-ordinator Elaine Bowls.

“We just cannot believe the generosity of all of the Solos members who heard about our fundraising drive for the courts when they came to town,” Sheena said.

“They called us a few months ago and gave us the opportunity to welcome visitors through the gate for a gold coin donation.

“We thought we’d just make a few dollars but we walked away from that day with a lot of great company and stories of travel.

“We simply can’t find the words to express our gratitude for the Solos club going on to raise $1000 for us.”
