Red Earth Community Foundation South Burnett will receive $20,000 under Round 1 of the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund Community Investment Stream.
The not-for-profit group, which organises the South Burnett Leadership Program, has received the funding to deliver four skills and development events and conduct two study trips to build local leadership capacity.
Funding for two other local organisations under the same scheme was announced earlier:
- $25,000 to the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO) to deliver a series of information sessions to provide networking opportunities and information on business development and innovation. The project will target established and start-up businesses and produce a project evaluation report. The total cost of this project is $50,579.
- $13,899 to the Kilkivan Great Horseride Association to expand the annual Kilkivan Great Horse Ride event to create a five-day community festival in 2018 that will attract a larger, more diverse population of spectators and participants to the iconic 32-year-old event.
Round 1 of the Federal Government program funded 147 projects across Australia to a total of $6.9 million.
The program aims to provides funding for infrastructure and community investment projects that will create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.
The Wide Bay region received a total of $258,759 to deliver economic and social benefits.
Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett Executive Officer Scott Rowe said the region would benefit greatly from this investment.
“From the enhancement of the historic Great Kilkivan Horse Ride and strengthening iconic events in Gympie, to delivering mentorship and business expertise in the North and South Burnett and a new social map for the Fraser Coast, this funding will help transform our communities,” Mr Rowe said.
“I acknowledge the hard work of these small groups and organisations and congratulate them for their passion, community spirit and unwavering desire to build bigger and better communities for the future.”
