The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride is no more … from next year the iconic event will be known as the “Kilkivan Horse Ride Festival”.

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announced on Friday that the organising committee had received $13,899 from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) Community Investments Stream to assist with the rebranding.

This year’s event is just around the corner and will keep the usual name.

It will be held on Saturday, September 30, later in the year than usual because of the dry conditions in the region.

There will be smaller activities on the Friday and Sunday, but Saturday is the main day (see poster, below)

The proposal for the 2018 festival is that it will be extended to five days, from April 4-8.

“Building a Better Burnett – Improving Business Prosperity and Practice” also received a grant from the BBRF Community Investments Stream.

The $25,000 grant is to help the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO) host business information sessions.

The aim of the sessions will be to provide networking opportunities and information on a variety of business development and innovation topics.
