A 44-year-old woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious burns after a gas bottle exploded at Kandanga.

An RACQ LifeFlight spokesperson said it appeared the woman was trying to light a gas cooking oven at the Kandanga Hotel.

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight helicopter was despatched about 11:00am on Monday.

The woman was treated by a LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance ServiceFlight Paramedic for serious facial burns and possible airway damage.

She was then airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
