The State Government is investing $615,000 in three strategic projects to be run by the Burnett Mary Regional Group.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said work would be undertaken through projects that would support two of the region’s key industries – agriculture and tourism.

“These projects will improve the Burnett Mary region’s wetlands, promote soil conservation in the western Burnett and help protect the Great Barrier Reef,” Mr Saunders said.

Member for Bundaberg Leanne Donaldson said BMRG would also receive $125,000 to work with other regional Natural Resource Management bodies to increase landholder understanding of the importance of soil health and soil biology in sustainable agriculture.

The funds are part of an $80 million, five-year Queensland Natural Resource Management Investment Program.

In the south-east corner, the State Government will be investing $500,000 to improve waterways, riverbanks and grazing land.

Natural Resources Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said this project would target seven SEQ rivers and catchments, including the Upper Brisbane River catchment.
