The 800 cattle yarded in Murgon on Tuesday mostly sold to firm rates, with some descriptions easing back slightly.

Heavy cows were firm on the previous sale with some lighter cows easing.

Better quality weaner steers and heifers also sold strongly, but plainer quality heifers were slightly cheaper than a fortnight ago.

Cattle were consigned from Gayndah, Mt Perry, Coringa, Durong, Kingaroy, Nanango and the Murgon district.

No heavier Bullocks were yarded.

  • Heavy Cows over 500kg sold to $2.38/kg, averaging $2.22/kg
  • Cows 400–500kg averaged $2.18/kg, topping at $2.30/kg
  • Cows under 400kg sold to $2.13/kg for a $1.85 average
  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2.65/kg and $2377
  • Charbray steers from Nanango sold to $1243 at $2.89/kg
  • 366kg 2 and 4 tooth Droughtmaster cross steers from Murgon sold for $1026 at $2.80/kg
  • D & D Gscheidle from Manyung sold 337kg Santa cross steers at $3.20/kg for $1080
  • G & T Campbell from Paradise Dam sold 260kg Santa weaner steers for $855 at $3.29/kg
  • R. Schmidt from Stallworth sold Santa cross weaner steers for $884 at $3.415/kg
  • B & A Gannon of Gayndah sold two pens of Droughtmaster weaner steers for $938 ($3.41) and $780 ($3.50)
  • Two pens of Santa weaner steers from J. Rickards of Proston sold for $870 at $3.58/kg and $617 at $3.63/kg
  • Tony Wessling of Murgon sold Santa weaner steers for $3.51/kg, returning $801
  • Santa weaner steers from T. McLennan of Mt Perry sold for $790 at $3.49/kg
  • 350kg Droughtmaster cross heifers from Murgon sold for $979 at $2.79/kg
  • 336kg Charolais cross heifers from Mondure sold for $2.38/kg, returning $943
  • A draft of 30 Santa weaner heifers from G & T Campbell sold for an average of $805 for a $3.00/kg average
  • 220kg Droughtmaster heifers from M. Young of Stuart River sold for $660 at $3.00/kg
  • A line of 46 Santa weaner heifers from J. Rickards of Proston sold for $3.10/kg, averaging $607 and 195kg.

The next fortnightly cattle sale will be held on Tuesday, August 8.

Similar Conditions At Coolabunia

The fortnightly Fat and Store Sale held at the Coolabunia Saleyards on Tuesday saw 160 cattle on offer, slightly less than a fortnight ago.

A good line of store cattle and weaners were yarded with prices similar or a little easier than a fortnight ago.

Export cattle, though, sold to a slightly stronger market.

Highlights:

  • A Brangus bull from Kingaroy made 259c/kg for 820kg to return $2125
  • Charbray cows from Nanango made 237c/kg for 620kg to return $1470
  • A Braford cow from Crawford made 227c/kg for 580kg to return $1320
  • A young Murray Grey cow from Tingoora made 251c/kg for 595kg to return $1490
  • Bazadaise heifers from Gordonbrook made 285c/kg for 390kg to return $1110
  • Santa Gertrudis cross steers from Mannuem made 325c/kg for 315kg to return $1025
  • Limousin steers from Nanango made 355c/kg for 200kg to return $710
  • Limousin cross heifers from Cushnie made 320c/kg for 200kg to return $640
  • A young Hereford cow and calf unit from Mannuem made $1300 per head
  • Prices for steers averaged between 278c/kg and 310c/kg, but some steers under 200kg attracted bids as high as 355c/kg
  • Prices for heifers averaged between 274c/kg and 300c/kg
  • Prices for cows averaged 200c/kg and 231c/kg, but some cows under 400kg saw bids up to 260c/kg
  • Manufacture Steers over 540kg drew bids of 256c/kg to 270c/kg

The next Fat and Store sale will be held on Tuesday, August 8.
