The Queensland Dairyfarmers Organisation has paid tribute to former dairy farmer and industry representative Ivan Vonhoff who died on Wednesday, aged 85.

Mr Vonhoff received an Order of Australia Medal in 2008  for his service to the Lutheran Church of Australia, to the dairy industry through a range of executive roles, and to the community.

The QDO said Mr Vonhoff was a very active participant in the dairy industry and advocacy organisations.

He was a QDO State and District Councillor for many years and was also chairman and director of the Darling Downs Unity Milk Co-operative.

He was chairman of the Queensland Butter Board from 1987-97, a member of the Crows Nest Rural Fire Board, and heavily involved in the Lutheran Church.

He was a member of the Church Council (Qld District) from 1961-2004 and chairman of St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Crows Nest for about 50 years.

Mr Vonhoff was also Shire Chairman (Mayor) of Crows Nest Shire from 1988-93.

His funeral will be held at 10:30am on Friday, July 7, at St Luke’s, Crows Nest.
