Earthworks and some cabling had been completed on the block before the motel project failed … if Bunnings’ development application is approved by the SBRC, the development would go ahead within sight of the Sunshine Mitre 10 store in Rogers Drive

June 9, 2017

As tipped in October last year, hardware giant Bunnings is coming to Kingaroy, planning a $15 million retail development on the edge of town.

A development application has been lodged with the South Burnett Regional Council for the highway frontage site on the D’Aguilar Highway (Walter Road).

This site was to have been the location for a multi-million dollar motel development but that project fell over in late 2015 after initial earthworks had been completed.

When rumours started flying last October that Bunnings had bought the land, Bunnings General Manager (Property) Andrew Marks would not confirm or deny the purchase but said Kingaroy “remained an area of interest for Bunnings and we would consider opening a store there in the future if the right opportunity became available”.

Council officers will now have to consider Bunnings’ development application.

  1. So the rumours have now been confirmed officially. I re-iterate the comments I made on the previous report on this subject. I also agree that common sense must prevail by the SBRC along with taking all relevant matters into consideration when deciding on every aspect of the said application.
