FLASHBACK: Caroline Cavanagh and Esther Farmilo, from Kingaroy, dressed up as pink pussycats for the 2015 Mother’s Day Classic

May 2, 2017

The popular Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run – which has traditionally been held at Kingaroy’s Memorial Park – is moving to a new location this year.

The Fun Run will be relocating to the rear of Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street so walkers and runners can make use of the new South Burnett Rail Trail.

The fun morning will be held on Sunday, May 14 and usually attracts up to 300 participants.

Organisers say it’s the perfect way for families to enjoy a memorable start to Mother’s Day.

Walkers and runners will travel along the Rail Trail towards Tingoora, then turn around at special markers for the journey back.

The Wondai Lions will be cooking up breakfasts (to give mum a break) and there’ll be a multi-draw raffle, too.

Registrations for the fun run will start at 8:00am at the Mackenzie Street side of Coronation Park.

After a warm-up around 8:45am, participants will then set off on either a 4km walk, a 4km run or an 8km run.

The fun run isn’t a timed event, so no race packs or bibs are required.

Participants will receive a Certificate Of Participation, and if there are sufficient stocks, a 2017 medallion as well.

Entry fees are $25 for adults and $15 for children or concession card holders, but early birds who register online by May 10 can get a $5 discount.

There are also family rates available: one adult and up to two children $35 (earlybird) or $45; two adults and up to two children $55 (earlybird) or $65.

All funds raised go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and all entrants are encouraged to dress up in pink.

This year’s Mother’s Day Classic is being organised by the Kingaroy Nutters running group.
