Urban fire units joined rural brigades at the fire which spread rapidly across these Coolabunia paddocks on Wednesday afternoon

Firefighters were despatched on Wednesday afternoon to a large grass fire burning near Coolabunia.

Multiple rural and town brigades were called to the fire about 2:30pm on Wednesday.

Smoke from the incident could be seen from Kingaroy.

The fire was burning near Coolabunia Malar Road, Barsbys Road and Reagan Road, Coolabunia.

A QFES spokesman said the fire broke out about 2:00pm and was not posing a threat to property.

“Crews are working to contain the blaze. Residents in Coolabunia and surrounding areas may be affected by smoke,” the spokesman said.

When southburnett.com.au visited the scene at 3:30pm, the grass fire appeared to be largely contained and some firefighting units were departing the area.

A large area of grassland was blackened out by the fire
