May 15, 2017

Saints have notched up their first AFL victory for 2017 with a handy win over Coolaroo in Kingaroy on Saturday.

South Burnett got off to a good start, putting the first points on the board after just a few minutes.

By the end of a sometimes fiery first quarter, the home team was ahead 5.2 (32) to 4.2 (26).

Coolaroo fought back in the second stanza to slip ahead by five points at half-time but Saints inched back into the lead and were well ahead at the final siren, 15.10 (100) to 10.18 (78).

The win is sweet revenge for the Saints, who were defeated by 60 points by Coolaroo in Round 1.

It also rewarded fans who turned up at Lyle Vidler Oval for the Saints’ first home game of the season.

Saints’ goals were kicked by Jordan Pressnell (4), Joseph Amery (2), Mitchell Francis (2), Ben Pressnell (2), Braeden Snow, Callum Dick, Keegan Wright, Kieran Askin and Jack Hourn.

The Saints’ next game will be at Lyle Vidler Oval against the Goondiwindi Hawks next Saturday (May 20).

It was another tough game for the Women Saints … and for spectators, with both teams wearing red and black guernseys

The Saints’ women’s team didn’t enjoy as good a day, scoring just one goal against the South Toowoomba Bombers.

The final score was 14.14 (98) to 1.0 (6).

Kayla Smith kicked the Saints’ sole goal.

The Saints’ women will also be facing the Goondiwindi Hawks in Kingaroy next Saturday.
