Bookings are now being taken to enjoy high tea at the famous Burrandowan Picnic Races … which are only a week away!

The volunteers who make Burrandowan happen every year are readying themselves for next Saturday (May 13) which is the biggest day of their year.

The races began in 1922 and have grown into the most popular picnic race meeting in south-east Queensland. Many punters camp overnight at the track.

Saturday will kick off with the traditional clay target shoot at 9:00am.

Food stalls and the bar will open at 11:00am and the five-race program will starting at 1:00pm.

Burrandowan’s Fashions of the Field competition is a highlight in itself, with both wacky and wonderful fashions being paraded on the catwalk by men and women.

Visitors who would like to enjoy the Taabinga Station High Tea in the historic hall – it was very popular last year – must book a seat before May 10.

Gourmet lunch hampers are also available again, but these, too, must be pre-ordered by May 10.

Club secretary Carolyn Stone said the committee was once again looking forward to hosting young and old on race day.

“It’s always a wonderful day for people to gather, renewing old friendships and making new ones, and we love seeing the effort everyone goes to for our day,” she said.

“The pit-fired barbecue will be ready in the evening to cook a tender, tasty steak and local band MISFiTZ and the Redsell Brothers will have you dancing away under the stars.

“We are delighted to be supporting RACQ LifeFlight once more; every dollar counts when it comes to rescuing lives and transporting patients.”

Carolyn said there would be shuttle buses travelling from Kingaroy to the race track.

“Or you are welcome to bring your swag, caravan or tent and sleep the night at the race track with our free camping on Saturday night,” she said.

The high tea in the dining room was very popular in 2016 … and quite posh!
