The Autumn Garden Expo in Wondai coincided with the Easter long-weekend this year, which almost guaranteed it would be a huge weekend for organisers.

And it also meant the Easter Bunny would be dropping in at some time …

A big crowd came through the gates at Wondai Sportsground on Saturday to wander through the stalls. And if the number of trips to the gate by the courtesy ATV carrying plants was any indication, a lot of purchases were also made.

Qualified horticulturalist and ABC Radio gardening expert Claire Bickle shared tips with the crowd in the outdoor theatrette in sessions on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Stolzies – more formally known as the Stolzenberg Brothers – provided musical entertainment at other times.

South Burnett Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff officially opened the Expo on Saturday afternoon.

She said the Expo had put Wondai “on the map” over the past 24 years.

“It’s not just an event, it’s a destination … there are people here from everywhere,” she said.

And the Easter Bunny? She hopped in on Sunday to give away some chocolate eggs.
