The final round of the annual Wondai Cup has been won by indoor bowlers from Tingoora and Goomeri.

The Wondai Cup is an annual competition run between the Wondai and Kingaroy indoor bowls clubs.

The competition began late last year and in recent months steadily worked up to the finals.

This year the winners were Wondai Indoor Bowls Club stalwarts Maryanne Pearce, from Tingoora, and Faye Holding, from Goomeri.

They were supported in the final round by Len Pick from Wondai and Don Moore from Murgon.

The runners-up were Wondai’s Lorraine Rook and Daphne Ladlow, who teamed up with Val Klein from Maryborough.

Kingaroy fielded two strong teams in the competition, but didn’t secure a victory despite a great effort from the players.

In other top efforts, the well balanced side of Margaret Stevenson, Daphne Ladlow, Val Klein and Vince Lakin dominated the recent Gympie carnival.

The quartet were undefeated with four wins and a draw, which included matching bowls with one of southern Queensland’s top Caloundra combinations: Gayle and Ken James, Max Evans and David Stoker.

The same Wondai based rink was also well to the fore at the Dalby carnival, claiming the runner-up prize.
