The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, Dorothy and the Lion travelled along the Yellow Brick Road in the 1939 film of the Wizard Of Oz; the SBMCS will be bringing its own production to Kingaroy Town Hall later this year, and will be holding auditions shortly

South Burnett fans of live theatre are in for a special treat this year.

The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society (SBMCS) will be staging not one but two productions at Kingaroy Town Hall: Jesus Christ Superstar, directed by Warren Wintour, and The Wizard Of Oz, directed by Craig Reiger.

If all goes well, they may also be putting together a touring theatre-restaurant show later in the year, too – a follow-up to 2013’s wildly successful “Jes Call Me Cowboy” that played to packed houses around the region over a three week period.

The Society held auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar in early January, and they’ll be holding two information sessions for The Wizard Of Oz during the coming week.

The first session will be held this Sunday (February 5) from 5:30pm to 6:00pm at the Society’s headquarters, a large shed at the rear of the South Burnett Enterprise Centre in Cornish Street, Kingaroy.

A second session will be held at the same location next Thursday, February 9 between 7:30pm and 8:00pm for anyone who was unable to come to the first one.

Auditions will then be held the following Sunday and Thursday, February 12 and 16, but you’ll need to book a place in the auditions by attending one of the two information sessions.

The SBMCS are looking for actors, singers and dancers as well as back-stage personnel, and no previous experience is necessary – just enthusiasm, energy and commitment.

More details can also be obtained by emailing Craig Reiger.
