A 10-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after being bitten by a snake on Friday evening.

An RACQ LifeFlight spokesperson said the boy suffered the bite on his family property in the South Burnett region.

“The young boy was putting chickens away in the family’s paddock when he stood on the snake,” the spokesperson said.

The type of snake has not been identified.

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was despatched to the property at 7:40pm.

The boy was transported in a stable condition – accompanied by his mother – to Toowoomba Hospital.
