Hazel Christie-Small can’t stop smiling … the bronze statue of tennis great Roy Emerson is completed, mounted on a plinth and all ready to be unveiled.
The big day will occur at 1:00pm on January 18 outside Nukku Nook in Blackbutt which houses the Roy Emerson Museum.
Hazel, who is a member of the Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association, has been driving the project to create a life-size statue of Emerson, who was raised at Nukku.
Emerson will be flying back to Australia for the unveiling.
Hazel told southburnett.com.au on Saturday that the fund-raising had been hectic for the project but it was now all completed.
“The project could not have been achieved without the help of a great many people,” she said.
“Those who saw the vision, held the faith and supported us from beginning to end.
“We thank all our supporters, those who bought raffle tickets, attended functions, donated their time, those who shared their resources and those who generously contributed financial support from $50 through to $20,000.”
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington will also be present at the unveiling.
