The Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association says it is on track to have its Roy Emerson statue unveiled by the end of the year.

The group recently received a $35,000 grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund which has been a big help for the project.

Members will now finalise the site for the statue, in conjunction with the South Burnett Regional Council.

The aim is for it to be positioned near the Roy Emerson Museum (Nukku Nook) at the rail trail head in Blackbutt.

The association also plans to commission a hexagonal plinth for the life-size statue to rest upon, as well as organising engraved plaques for its base.

The actual statue is being made by sculptors Mark Snell and Jane Bailey from Lavaworx Art Studio on the Sunshine Coast.

The association is still looking for sponsors to bring the project to fruition:

  • $500 – Bronze Sponsor – Name or business name engraved upon the plinth
  • $2500 – Silver Sponsor
  • $5000 – Gold Sponsor
