Bean Grower Australia’s inaugural Workplace Warriors Footy Fun Day in Kingaroy proved two things last weekend … there’s plenty of people keen to get out and have fun with their workmates, and politicians can (sometimes) pass a football.
Eight workplace teams took part in the charity touch football mini-carnival at T.J. O’Neill Oval, including a bunch of blue-shirted volunteers from “Team Deb Frecklington”.
The Deputy Opposition Leader told southburnett.com.au she had been expecting a “hit and giggle” but had quickly realised the other players – and the referees – were taking things more seriously.
Team Deb Frecklington lifted accordingly and actually earned a spot in the semi-finals, where they were defeated by eventual winners Fiedler Flushers.
The Footy Fun Day concept was developed at Bean Growers Australia as a team building exercise among staff members.
But as more people heard about the event, more corporate teams joined in.
The teams were mixed and included both children and adults.
BGA donated $1000 as prize money, to be donated to a charity chosen by the winning team.
The Fiedler Flushers elected to give the money to Melanoma Australia.
BGA Managing Director Lloyd Neilsen said the day had proven so successful, teams should start practising for next year’s event.
