Police are seeking help from the public to recover a thoroughbred gelding reported stolen from a property between Cambooya and Felton about a fortnight ago.

The owner noticed the horse missing on December 12 and believe it was stolen just prior to this date.

The gelding is registered with the Australian Stud Book and is described as being chestnut in colour with a star, stripe and snip and white on his near hind (left hand side) cannon.

He is branded R rolled P 6 on his near (left) side shoulder and 1 over 4 on his off (right) side shoulder.

The owners of the gelding have told police the horse is of extreme sentimental value to them as they have bred him from a line they owned for some time.

The owner is very motivated to see its safe recovery, and are requesting that any person with information to come forward and assist police.

Any person with information is requested to contact the Toowoomba Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad on (07) 4614-2114 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800-333-000.

UPDATE December 30: Sadly, the missing gelding has been located deceased.

The animal’s carcase was found in a reed-covered waterway on the property.

The paddock had been searched by motor vehicle and foot, however when a privately operated drone was brought in to search inaccessible areas, the gelding’s body was discovered partially hidden by reeds.
