Tuesday’s cattle sale at the Murgon Saleyards was the final one for 2016 and saw the continuation of good prices; the next sale will be held on Tuesday, January 10

A last minute cattle sale held at the Murgon sale yards on Tuesday saw just short of 300 cattle put up for bids.

Though numbers were short in supply, all descriptions sold to solid rates with all the regular buyers in attendance.

Cattle were consigned from Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and locally.

  • Export steers sold to $3.00/kg returning $1587
  • Heavy cows sold to $2.39/kg and $1110
  • Lighter cows under 400kg sold to $2.20/kg averaging $1.98/kg
  • Heavy bulls: the best heavy bull yarded fetched $2.46/kg and $1665
  • 2 Tooth Steers of 440kg on a/c M & C Ward Murgon sold for $1404 at $3.19/kg
  • Charbray steers from A Mellers of Mundubbera sold for $3.38/kg returning $1048
  • Charbray steers of 276kg on a/c of Murgon’s B. Alcock sold for $982 at $3.55/kg
  • Chasrbray weaner steers on a/c of R & F Nichol, Eidsvold sold for $807 at $3.89/kg
  • Santa weaner steers on a/c J & M Zillman, Gayndah sold to $8330 at $3.66/kg
  • Brahman cross heifers from M. Atkinson of Redgate sold to $2.93/kg and $1251
  • Santa heifers from James Heading Pastoral at Cloyna sold for $1055 (3.35) and $932 (3.46)
  • Angus heifers of 261kg sold for $903 at $3.46/kg
  • Santa weaner heifers of 229kg from Gayndah sold for $3.40/kg returning $780
  • Charbray weaner heifers of 207kg sold to $3.58/kg for $741
  • Weaner heifers sold from $3.20/kg to $3.40/kg
  • Hereford cows and calves from Kingaroy sold to $1610

The first sale for 2017 will be on Tuesday, January 10 at 8:00am.
