Energy Minister Mark Bailey

The State Budget includes $8.2 million for the rollout of Ergon Energy’s Battery Storage Network Development project to prepare for renewable energy in the power grid.

The government-owned corporation will install its Grid Utility Support Systems (GUSS) across regional Queensland’s electricity network.

GUSS works by charging batteries overnight when electricity use is at its lowest and discharging them during the day if required when energy use peaks.

“These systems charge during low-demand periods and then assist with the provision of reliable electricity supply during high demand periods,” Energy Minister Bailey said.

“The GUSS technology is another step towards easing pressure on our electricity grids, and improving our use of renewable energy in Queensland.”
