The State Government has announced the inaugural Directors for Energy Queensland, the corporation which will spring into existence on Friday (June 30) from the merger of Ergon Energy and Energex.
Lawyer and company director Kerryn Newton and North Queensland business leader Clive Skarott AM will join previously announced chairman Phil Garling on the three-person Board.
Mr Skarott has chaired the Ergon Board since last year while Ms Newton has served on the Energex Board since 2008.
“Both appointees bring strengths, insights and commercial acumen which will bolster chairman Phil Garling’s decades of first-hand industry experience,” Treasurer Curtis Pitt said.
The united Ergon and Energex will become Australia’s biggest power company.
The a $24 billion entity’s headquarters will be in Townsville.
Mr Pitt said over coming months it was anticipated that further directors would be appointed to the Energy Queensland Board.
The existing boards of Ergon and Energex will remain in place until September 30 to allow a smooth transition to the new model.
Energex CEO Terry Effeney will serve as Energy Queensland’s Interim CEO while the company establishes its structure and executive.
