More than 10,300 Ergon Energy customers in the South Burnett and Gympie regional council areas lost power this afternoon … because of a crow.

The network failed at 12:39pm.

Residents from Tingoora to Booubyjan, west to Boondooma and east to Lower Wonga were left without power.

The major centres of Wondai, Murgon, Cherbourg, Goomeri, Proston and Kilkivan were also affected.

Residents at Coverty, Crownthorpe, Durong South, Greenview, Hivesville, Moffatdale, Mondure, Silverleaf, Wheatlands and Windera were also affected, as well as many smaller localities in between.

An Ergon Energy spokesman said the crow flew into equipment at the Kilkivan bulk supply substation.

This caused a loss of power supply to the Murgon, Kilkivan and Gootchie zone substations.

Power was restored within an hour to Gootchie substation by re-routing its supply from Maryborough.

Ergon crews than worked to re-energise a transformer at the Kilkivan bulk supply substation.

All South Burnett customers had power restored at 2:33pm.
