August 27, 2015

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and will be charged with murder following the discovery on Thursday of the body of missing Gatton teenager Jayde Kendall.

Jayde’s body was located at Upper Tenthill, 14km south of Gatton, on Thursday morning.

Detective Acting Inspector Matt Howard said the body was found after police appealed for local residents to check their properties for anything out of place.

“As a result, a member of the community contacted CrimeStoppers and led us to this area where we conducted a search and located the body,” he said.

He said an 18-year-old man who had been a person of interest during the investigation had been arrested and a murder charge would be laid.

Jayde, 16, was last seen on Friday, August 14, at Highview Avenue, Gatton, about 3:15pm.

Police will allege she was picked up from high school by the man now in custody.

Her bank account was accessed at an ATM on Railway Street, Gatton, at 5:45pm and 5:47pm on the same day.

UPDATE: Police have charged an 18-year-old Lockyer Waters man with murder and interfering with a corpse. He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday (August 28).
