Police have charged a 24-year-old Blackbutt man with a string of offences after he allegedly threw an axe at a police officer last night when they were trying to arrest him.
The man also allegedly threatened two other officers.
However, a police spokesman said the man was taken into custody without incident after one officer drew his pistol and another his taser.
Police were trying to locate a man in Toogoolawah about 9:20pm after reports of a possible assault and an animal cruelty incident.
They arrived at Cressbrook Street to find the man armed with an axe and a knife.
A police spokesman said the officers directed the man to put the weapons down.
It will be alleged the man pointed the axe at two male Senior Constables and threatened to harm them. He then allegedly threatened a female Senior Constable before throwing the axe at her.
The officers were not physically injured.
The man has been charged with three counts of serious assault police, one count of assaulting police whilst armed, two counts of going armed to cause fear, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor, and one count of injuring animals.
He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
