Police used capsicum spray to subdue a driver following a single-vehicle car crash on Geritz Road, Kingaroy, on Sunday afternoon.
Acting Senior Sergeant Brent Gerber, from Kingaroy police, said police were called to the crash scene about 3:30pm.
They found the wrecked vehicle, a silver Ford Falcon sedan, which had hit a tree but the driver had left the scene.
A short time later police found the 40-year-old Kingaroy man hiding in an empty water tank.
He allegedly resisted assistance from ambulance officers and resisted being taken into custody.
Acting Snr Sgt Gerber said police used the capsicum spray to subdue the man before he was taken to Kingaroy Hospital for a blood sample to be taken for analysis.
He had been charged with three counts of serious assault on police, and two counts of serious assault on QAS staff.
Police are awaiting the results of the blood tests before determining if any other charges will be laid.
