Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott spent more than $12,000 in six months on buying Australian flags, according to Parliamentary records obtained by the Australian Financial Review.
However, Mr Scott’s spend of $12,236 for flags for his electorate – which includes a slice of the South Burnett – was only the third greatest among Federal MPs.
Liberal MP John Alexander, from the North Sydney seat of Bennelong, spent $17,949.
KAP leader Bob Katter (Member for Kennedy) came in second with $13,320.
The Australian Financial Review reported that, in total, Federal MPs spent spent $502,000 on handing out flags between July 1 and December 31 last year.
However, the days of free flags may be disappearing with Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey introducing an all-office Budget for MPs, which took effect on July 1, which as well as flags must also include stationery, printing and software.
