Photographers across Australia are being invited to “shoot” feral animals for a national Feral Photos competition.
The competition is being co-ordinated by the Invasive Animals Co-operative Research Centre (IACRC).
IACRC spokesperson Jessica Marsh said she hoped the photo competition would encourage people to capture photographic evidence of feral animals and the damage they cause.
“Because feral animals are introduced they wreak havoc on the natural environment, decimate wildlife and severely affect agricultural production,” she said.
“This photo competition is one way to raise awareness about these impacts and highlights why we need to continue to make management of these pest animals a priority.
“This is the fifth year of the competition and we have received over 1000 entries since it started. Last year we had more than 400 entries, a mixed bag of everything from wild dogs, feral cats, foxes, rabbits, cane toads, myna birds, carp, camels and goats.”
There is a limit of five photo entries per person and a range of prizes will be on offer. The competition closes on September 30.
